Residents of Wells, Somerset, were fed up with the sight of an overloaded bin outside the Bishop’s Palace, which was left unemptied and spilling waste onto the grounds. In a commendable show of community spirit, local councillor Claire Sully and MP Tessa Munt took matters into their own hands and emptied the bin themselves.
Tessa Munt shared the initiative on her Facebook page, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. The overflowing bin had become a concern for locals, sparking a swift and hands-on response from the two public figures.
Claire Sully, known for her advocacy of active travel and passion for the region’s rural areas, promptly addressed the issue after witnessing the growing mess at the popular tourist spot.

The public’s response to the proactive approach was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude towards the volunteers for their dedication to keeping the area clean. However, the incident also shed light on the broader problem of irregular bin emptying in Wells, leading to further advocacy from Cllr Sully for additional bins and improved maintenance.
In collaboration with Wells City Councillors and Somerset Council, Cllr Sully is working to address the situation and push for necessary changes to ensure a cleaner and more pleasant environment for all.
