Local MP’s Generosity Supports Dozens in Minehead Through Citizens Advice

Many residents in Minehead and the neighboring villages have received valuable support from Somerset’s Citizens Advice service, thanks to the generosity of their local MP. Rachel Gilmour, the Liberal Democrat MP for Tiverton and Minehead, elected in July 2024, has donated her monthly councillor allowance to the West Somerset Citizens Advice service in Minehead.

The funding provided by Mrs. Gilmour has allowed the service to assist approximately 65 clients with 217 different queries, demonstrating the significant impact of her contribution. The majority of queries were related to benefits, tax credits, housing, universal credit, and employment, among other crucial issues.

Citizens Advice West Somerset has expressed their gratitude for the project funding provided by Rachel Gilmour, emphasizing the positive impact it has had on vulnerable individuals in the region. Mrs. Gilmour’s donations have expanded the services of the Citizens Advice office in Minehead, providing essential support to those in need across west Somerset.

The West Somerset Citizens Advice office, open from 10 am to 5 pm on weekdays, has become a vital resource for the local community, assisting over 2,300 clients in 2024/25 and securing more than £1.4 million in positive outcomes for individuals aged 15 to 94.

Mrs. Gilmour’s commitment to supporting her constituents through contributions to Citizens Advice West Somerset has received widespread appreciation, with the impact of her donations being described as “life-changing” for the area.
