Arthur Chatwin, an 18-month-old toddler from Cheddar, Somerset, has already faced unimaginable challenges in his young life. Born two weeks early in December 2024, Arthur’s first few days seemed normal—until his breathing suddenly stopped at just five days old. Miraculously, medical teams resuscitated him after he died twice, and he was placed in an induced coma to stabilize him.
Since then, Arthur’s journey has been one of constant hospital visits, surgeries, and medications. He requires medicine seven times a day, and his parents, Joe and Dani Chatwin, have had to perform CPR at home. Diagnosed with OTC (Ornithine Transcarbamylase) deficiency, a rare and severe metabolic liver condition, Arthur’s condition demands ongoing attention and care.
Now, the family is preparing for a life-saving liver transplant—the best hope for Arthur’s health and future. While the NHS covers the surgery itself, Joe and Dani face significant financial strain covering travel, accommodation, and daily expenses during frequent hospital stays. The family regularly travels between their home in Cheddar and specialist units like Bristol Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, with costs piling up.

Living in a small two-bedroom flat with their older son George, nearly three years old, the family is seeking a larger home to give Arthur his own room, as recommended by doctors. Joe describes them balancing daily challenges while supporting both boys: “George has been amazing through all of this. He doesn’t like being separated from Arthur, especially when Arthur is in hospital.”
Despite everything, Arthur remains a joyful, energetic child who loves crawling, dancing, and playing with his brother. The Chatwins have launched a fundraising campaign to raise £3,500 to help cover the essential costs associated with Arthur’s care and treatment.
Arthur’s story is one of resilience and hope, highlighting the strength of a family determined to give their little fighter the chance to thrive.
