Life-Changing Mallorca: How a Six-Month TUI Job Turned into 26 Years of Hospitality

In 1999, Diana Winskill from Somerset set off for Mallorca with plans to work as a TUI representative for just six months. Now, more than 26 years later, she remains a beloved figure on the island, greeting British holidaymakers with warmth and dedication. For the past seven years, Diana has been a familiar and friendly presence at the Globales Santa Lucia hotel, one of Mallorca’s favorite TUI resorts, helping hundreds of guests create unforgettable holiday memories every day.

“I arrived here at 23, expecting only a brief stay,” Diana recalls. “But I met my English-born husband Chris, we started a family with our daughters Imogen and Amelia, and now I’ve lived here longer than I ever did in the UK.”

Over the decades, Diana has witnessed the evolving ways Brits travel. While the love for all-inclusive holidays remains strong—complete with the timeless tradition of evening bingo—she’s noticed a growing appetite for authentic experiences. Tourists increasingly seek to dive into local culture, enjoying excursions like the vibrant Mallorca markets, guided by TUI’s knowledgeable locals.

“There’s also been a trend toward friendship groups traveling together, moving beyond the usual family or couple vacations,” Diana explains.

Technology has transformed the travel experience, too. “The TUI app has been a game-changer,” she says. “Now guests can check transfer details and book excursions right from their phones. I remember when everything was handwritten, and we had to call to book trips.”

Despite these digital advances, Diana emphasizes the irreplaceable value of personal connection. “Welcome meetings are still hugely popular,” she notes. “People want to ask questions face to face. Human interaction remains at the heart of what we do.”

The adults-only Globales Santa Lucia hotel itself is a perfect getaway—situated between the picturesque beaches of Son Matias and Palma Nova, every room offers stunning sea views. Guests enjoy indoor and outdoor pools, a lively buffet restaurant, and two inviting bars. And the island’s mild climate means sunshine and pleasant temperatures year-round, even in winter.

Diana cherishes the relationships she’s built. “One guest told me she came back four times in one year just because of the connection we share. It’s not just about being a salesperson with a smile—you have to be ready to support guests through challenges and celebrate their holiday moments. It’s incredibly rewarding.”

Her advice for anyone considering becoming a TUI rep? “Go for it. Travel teaches you more than any classroom, and you get to connect with people in a way no desk job can offer. Helping guests enjoy their holidays is deeply fulfilling.”
