Lidl Unveils Multi-Million Pound Plan to Redevelop Keynsham Industrial Estate with New Store

Lidl has announced its acquisition of the Jewson Merchants Builders site in Keynsham as part of an ambitious plan to introduce a new, state-of-the-art store to the area. The discount supermarket giant intends to submit a formal planning application in the coming weeks, marking a significant investment aimed at revitalising the local industrial estate.

The proposed store will be conveniently located opposite the existing Waitrose and close to popular outlets like Domino’s and KFC, making it a central shopping destination. Daniel Preece, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, emphasized the company’s commitment to the community: “We have been looking to bring a new Lidl food store to serve Keynsham for some time and are delighted to share our plans for a store off Broadmead Lane. The new store would increase shopping choice, create local jobs, and provide access to our award-winning, affordable products.”

Designed to reflect Lidl’s modern store format, the Broadmead Lane location will feature an in-store bakery and the popular ‘Middle of Lidl’ section, ensuring residents can enjoy the best offers and fresh goods right on their doorstep.

This announcement follows Lidl’s recent declaration of a £500 million investment to expand across Somerset, including plans to open 11 new stores in locations such as Bath, Taunton, Weston-super-Mare, Shepton Mallet, Keynsham, and Nailsea. The chain also recently opened a new store in Wells and has received planning approval for a store in Bridgwater.

Richard Taylor, Chief Real Estate Officer at Lidl GB, highlighted the company’s growth ambitions: “This level of investment underscores our determination to bring convenient Lidl stores to communities across Great Britain. As we approach our fourth decade and near 1,000 stores, many areas like Keynsham are still in need of accessible Lidl locations.”

Lidl’s expansion plans for Somerset and nearby counties include store openings and relocations in towns such as Bath (three locations), Keynsham, Nailsea, and Weston-super-Mare, as well as relocations in Crewkerne, Frome, and Midsomer Norton, further solidifying its commitment to providing convenient, affordable shopping options nationwide.
