Lidl Shoppers Left Frustrated After Queueing for Nonexistent Air Conditioners During Heatwave

During last week’s heatwave, eager Lidl shoppers in Somerset formed long queues outside the Wincanton store, anticipating the arrival of air conditioning units advertised in the Middle of Lidl promotion. However, their excitement soon turned to disappointment when staff informed customers that no air con units had been delivered.

Shopper Zoe Rooney from Yeovil captured the large queue before the store opened on Friday, June 26. She arrived at 7:10 a.m., nearly an hour before the 8 a.m. opening, and was first in line. Yet, just minutes before opening, a staff member announced that there were no air conditioning units to be sold.

Zoe recounted the chaotic scene inside the store: “We rushed around trying to find the units, but there was absolutely nothing. They claimed there was no delivery.” She also noted that the Lidl website had indicated the air conditioners were in stock, adding to the confusion.

Expressing frustration, Zoe said, “Customers were standing outside in the heat, yet staff seemingly had no accurate information. The stock checker should have given us correct details earlier. People queued up because they genuinely believed the items were available, but in the end, they weren’t.”

In response, Lidl issued an apology to customers who missed out on the Middle of Lidl offer. A company spokesperson explained, “Our Middle of Lidl promotions provide high-quality products at great value. While we strive to maintain sufficient stock, all items are sold on a ‘while stocks last’ basis. We regret that some customers were unable to take advantage of this offer on this occasion.”
