Lidl has unveiled ambitious plans to relocate and upgrade its presence in Midsomer Norton, Somerset. The supermarket chain proposes constructing a brand-new, state-of-the-art store on land off Radstock Road, moving from its current High Street location.
The existing store, which has served the community for nearly 30 years, no longer meets the demands of Lidl’s growing customer base. The relocation aims to secure the discounter’s future in the area while providing an enhanced shopping experience.
This new store will offer a significantly larger space, allowing Lidl to expand its product range and improve accessibility. All current employees will be given the opportunity to transfer to the new site, with additional jobs created to support the larger facility. Staff will also benefit from improved welfare facilities.

Lidl expressed pride in serving Midsomer Norton since 1995 and emphasized that the new store would feature modern amenities, including a more spacious car park equipped with electric vehicle chargers. In line with Lidl’s commitment to sustainability, the building will incorporate solar panels on the roof, contributing to its energy needs. The development plans also include landscaping enhancements with new trees and shrubs across the site.
Glen Stidever, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, shared enthusiasm for the project: “We are excited to engage the community on our proposals to revamp our store in Midsomer Norton. The new location on Radstock Road will deliver the best possible shopping experience with expanded facilities, including solar power and EV charging points. We encourage local residents to share their feedback to help shape the final plans.”
Following a public consultation scheduled for Summer 2025, Lidl will submit a formal planning application to Bath and North East Somerset Council. If approved, Lidl will announce construction timelines and the projected opening date.
Committed to community involvement, Lidl is actively inviting feedback through its dedicated consultation website.
The proposed site for the new store includes land previously occupied by SDS Garage Doors, Radstock Window Warehouse, and PrimeTools Ltd, all of which are set to be cleared to make way for the development.
