Somerset County Cricket Club has confirmed that all-rounder Lewis Goldsworthy has signed a contract extension, securing his place with the club until at least the conclusion of the 2028 season.
The 25-year-old’s previous contract was due to expire this winter, but Goldsworthy has now committed his future to Somerset, where he has developed through the ranks since 2016.
A native of Cornwall, Goldsworthy joined the Somerset Academy in 2016 after progressing through the Cornwall Pathway and made his debut for Somerset’s Second XI the following year. His rise was marked by notable milestones, including his First XI appearance in the Vitality Blast against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in 2020. The following year he debuted in both First Class and List A cricket and was honoured as Somerset’s Young Player of the Season.

“Playing for Somerset is all I’ve ever wanted to do,” Goldsworthy said after signing the new deal. “Growing up in Cornwall, I was always coming to Taunton to watch Somerset so to be able to do something that I love for a living is really special.”
Since his debut, Goldsworthy has been a consistent presence for Somerset across all three formats, featuring in 132 matches, amassing over 3,500 runs and taking 75 wickets. His leadership qualities have also been recognised recently, with his appointment as Somerset’s Metro Bank One Day Cup Captain earlier this month.
Over the next two years, Goldsworthy aims to contribute significantly to Somerset’s ambitions. “I want to keep helping the club push for that County Championship title and continue our strong performances in white-ball cricket,” he added.
Somerset’s Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry, praised Goldsworthy’s impact on the team: “Lewis is an impactful all-round cricketer who is fiercely competitive. His ability to influence matches with both bat and ball, as well as in the field, makes him a key member of the squad. He is constantly seeking to improve, and we believe he will play an important role over the next few years as we strive to achieve our on-field goals.”
