Last Chance to Invest in Shepton Mallet’s Iconic Amulet Theatre

Imagine owning a piece of your local theatre, being part of its exciting future and community spirit. Now, your chance to do so is slipping away—there’s only one day left to buy shares in Shepton Mallet’s beloved Amulet Theatre.

Once a vibrant cultural hub, the Brutalist-style Amulet Theatre has faced closure but is now on the path to revival thanks to passionate local campaigners. The “Let’s Buy the Amulet” initiative launched a community share offer, inviting individuals, groups, and organizations to invest in restoring this much-loved venue.

The share offer, closing on Friday, October 31, allows you to purchase a minimum of 250 shares at £1 each, with a maximum of 50,000 shares available. So far, 246 members have invested nearly £110,000, surpassing the initial target of £100,000.

Martin Berkeley of Let’s Buy the Amulet shared: “We’ve seen fantastic momentum with shares being bought up to the closing date. Our goal is to raise around £200,000 to complete essential work and reopen the theatre promptly.”

The Amulet Theatre holds cherished memories for Shepton Mallet residents—birthdays, anniversaries, and community events have all taken place within its walls. Built in 1975 as part of the town’s centre redevelopment, the building remains a vital piece of local heritage, especially important since the town lacks a dedicated town hall or large community gathering space.

Though the theatre closed in 2011 and the upper floors now serve as a gym, Let’s Buy the Amulet is dedicated to restoring the ground floor for public use. Plans include gradually reopening the space to accommodate exercise classes, meetings, and entertainment that will benefit Shepton Mallet’s population of around 11,000.

It’s not too late to join this exciting community effort. Share purchases can be made with a minimum £250 investment, spread over ten monthly installments if preferred. To support this landmark project and be part of the Amulet’s future, visit www.buytheamulet.org.uk before midnight on October 31.
