A significant fire broke out on the top floor of a block of flats on West Street in Bridgwater on the evening of Tuesday, July 8. Emergency services responded swiftly after receiving multiple reports shortly after 8pm.
Upon arrival, fire crews found the top-floor flat engulfed in flames, with thick smoke pouring heavily from the building. The affected flat appears to have been completely destroyed. At this time, it remains unclear if neighboring units sustained any damage.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two fire engines from Bridgwater initially attended the scene, followed by reinforcements comprising two additional engines from Taunton and an aerial ladder platform. Firefighters deployed multiple resources including four breathing apparatus, several hose reels, thermal imaging cameras, and a smoke curtain to control and extinguish the blaze while searching for hidden hot spots.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries related to the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
