Lando Norris to Face Consequences After Singapore Collision with Oscar Piastri

Lando Norris is set to face consequences after McLaren deemed him responsible for the first-lap collision with teammate Oscar Piastri at the Singapore Grand Prix. The two drivers collided at turn two when Norris aggressively moved past Piastri to claim third place, sparking frustration from the Australian over team radio.

Although the FIA ruled Norris’ maneuver as clean during the race and McLaren initially stayed silent, the team has since concluded that Norris was at fault and will impose disciplinary measures. While the exact nature of these consequences remains undisclosed, sources suggest they will carry sporting implications as the McLaren drivers continue to vie for the championship lead.

Piastri acknowledged the team’s decision, stating, “Lando has taken responsibility for what happened. As a team, how lap one unfolded wasn’t how we want to race. We know the standards expected, and if those aren’t met, there are consequences.”

Norris accepted McLaren’s ruling and hinted that the repercussions will be felt for the remainder of the season. “The team held me accountable, which is fair. There was contact between two McLaren cars, and both Zak Brown and Andrea Stella want to prevent that. I understand the consequences and will deal with them until the season’s end,” Norris told Sky Sports.

This incident adds to McLaren’s ongoing efforts to manage the intense title battle between Norris and Piastri. The team previously instructed Piastri to yield to Norris at Monza and asked Norris to let Piastri pass after pit stops at the Hungarian Grand Prix last year, aiming to maintain harmony and fairness.

Piastri currently leads Norris by 22 points with six races remaining, though Norris has consistently closed the gap in recent events. Despite outside perceptions of complicated team dynamics, Norris believes McLaren’s approach fosters strong teamwork and drives their rapid progress from backmarkers to championship contenders.

“Internally, it’s straightforward,” Norris said. “Andrea Stella wants to preserve the positive teamwork that has taken us from last on the grid to the front. We have two drivers challenging each other more than any other team, and that’s the foundation of our success.”
