Lando Norris has boldly declared his confidence in competing against Max Verstappen, should the Dutch four-time world champion join McLaren amid swirling transfer rumors. Verstappen’s future has sparked intense speculation this season, fueled by Red Bull’s recent challenges and his reported dissatisfaction with Formula 1’s evolving regulations.
Though Verstappen has frequently been linked to Mercedes, recent reports from the Daily Mail claim that his management has engaged in talks with McLaren. Such a move could also trigger teammate Oscar Piastri’s departure to Red Bull. Despite these whispers, Norris—fresh off his first championship title last season—dismissed the rumors but expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of sharing a garage with Verstappen.
“I do believe I can beat any driver,” Norris said ahead of the British Grand Prix. “Max stands out for his consistency. Many drivers can deliver incredible laps or poles, but what makes an elite driver is performing at that level throughout every practice, qualifying, and race. Max does that better than almost anyone.”

Norris added that racing alongside legends like Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, or Fernando Alonso would be an exciting challenge. He welcomes the potential opportunity, emphasizing his focus remains on his current partnership with Australian teammate Oscar Piastri.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown downplayed the speculation, reaffirming the team’s commitment to its current driver lineup for the foreseeable future. Norris shared this sentiment, praising their teamwork and looking forward to more successful seasons together.
“To be honest, many drivers want to join McLaren, so it’s a positive sign that a four-time world champion like Max is interested,” Norris remarked. “But for now, it’s just speculation. I’m excited about my future here with McLaren and my partnership with Oscar. We’re working really well, and that’s my focus.”
Verstappen himself dismissed the transfer chatter, reiterating his dedication to Red Bull and letting his performance on track speak. “If there is any news or change, you’ll hear it from me, not from rumors,” he stated following a strong showing at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend.
