Olivia Thornton Paget, affectionately known as Peggy, celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family, friends, and heartfelt royal greetings from the King and Queen. The milestone event took place at Ivybank House Care Home in Bath, where Peggy now resides and continues to embrace life with enthusiasm.
Born in Wimbledon in 1925, Peggy’s early years were shaped by the outbreak of the Second World War. At just 14, she joined the Women’s Land Army, dedicating herself to vital agricultural work that supported Britain through a challenging time. She served until the war’s end in 1945, playing a crucial role on the home front.
After the war, Peggy married her husband Bill and settled in Surrey, where she raised a loving family comprising three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Beyond her family life, she nurtured a passion for gardening and antiques, even organizing local antiques fairs during her working years.

Since moving to Ivybank House five months ago, Peggy has fully engaged in the home’s activities, enjoying ball games, crafts, and especially wartime music, which holds a special place in her heart.
Reflecting on her long life, Peggy shared, “I’m not sure what the secret to a long life is, but I think having a busy, happy family life has kept me young. It’s also important to embrace new experiences and not worry too much about the small things.”
Andrew Pow, manager of Ivybank House, praised Peggy’s vibrant spirit: “Though Peggy has only been with us a short time, she has quickly become a cherished member of our community, actively participating in everything Ivybank has to offer. It’s been a true joy to celebrate this remarkable milestone with her.”
