Knife-Wielding Robber Threatens Elderly Passenger on Train to Temple Meads

Denzel Nyamutora, 25, has been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison after violently robbing an elderly passenger on a train to Bristol Temple Meads. Nyamutora pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of two bladed articles following the April 17 incident on a train traveling from Weston-super-Mare to Bristol.

The court was told that Nyamutora boarded the train at Worle station around 2 p.m. He noticed a 76-year-old man’s phone left unattended on a table. After briefly moving to another carriage, Nyamutora returned, snatched the phone, and attempted to leave. When the victim confronted him, Nyamutora brandished a knife in the man’s face, aggressively telling him to “f**k off.”

The victim immediately reported the incident to station staff upon arrival at Bristol Temple Meads. British Transport Police were alerted, and a search was underway after reports of fare evasion. Officers quickly identified Nyamutora, who was already under strict bail conditions barring him from railway travel.

Upon arrest, two knives were found concealed in Nyamutora’s coat and bag. Despite multiple questions, he declined to explain his actions or show remorse. NYamutora’s violent behavior and premeditation were emphasized by Detective Constable Richard Day, who praised the victim’s courage in supporting the investigation and court proceedings.

Nyamutora’s sentence reflects the gravity of his crimes, ensuring he is removed from the streets and held accountable for threatening a vulnerable member of the community.
