Denzel Nyamutora, 25, has been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison after robbing and threatening a 76-year-old man on a train traveling to Bristol Temple Meads. The incident occurred on April 17 when Nyamutora boarded the train at Worle station, North Somerset.
After noticing the elderly man’s phone left unattended on a table, Nyamutora initially sat in another carriage before returning to swiftly snatch the phone. When the victim stood up to confront him and followed him toward the train doors, Nyamutora brandished a knife and aggressively ordered him to “f**k off.”
Following the attack, the victim promptly reported the incident to station staff at Temple Meads. British Transport Police were alerted after revenue staff reported a separate fare evasion, leading officers to recognize Nyamutora—who was already under bail conditions prohibiting rail travel.

Upon arrest, police found two knives concealed in Nyamutora’s possession. He was charged with robbery and two counts of possessing bladed articles. Despite being questioned, Nyamutora declined to explain his actions or express remorse.
Detective Constable Richard Day praised the elderly victim for his bravery throughout the investigation and remarked on the premeditated nature of the crime and the risk posed by Nyamutora’s weapons. The successful prosecution ensures this dangerous individual is now removed from the streets, providing some reassurance to the community.
