Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson produced a scintillating 42-ball century to crush Somerset and secure his team’s first victory in the Vitality Blast at Sophia Gardens. Following a similar spectacular performance two years ago against the same opponents, Carlson’s unbeaten 109 runs led Glamorgan to a convincing seven-wicket win.
Despite some early fortune, Carlson capitalized on a restructured Glamorgan lineup and an injury-weakened Somerset squad. Debutants Jimmy Neesham and Nathan McAndrew, along with leg-spinner Mason Crane, played pivotal roles. McAndrew’s impressive 4 for 15 and Crane’s 3 for 42 helped contain an aggressive Somerset, who saw Tom Banton’s blistering 59 off 25 balls set a strong platform.
Banton’s explosive hitting fueled Somerset’s powerplay, but Glamorgan fought back effectively. McAndrew’s strike in the fifth over slowed the run flow, and Crane’s tight bowling curtailed further damage. Although Somerset’s middle and lower order, including contributions from the Rew brothers, Tom Abell, and Daniel Sams, made starts, none could maintain Banton’s momentum, leaving them vulnerable.

Glamorgan’s chase began cautiously. Carlson’s early runs included several edges benefiting from field placements, but his rhythm soon took hold. He reached his half-century with stylish strokeplay and sealed his century with towering sixes off Lewis Goldsworthy and Josh Shaw. The missed direct hit by Somerset at a crucial moment when Carlson was on 14 proved costly.
As wickets tumbled toward the end, Sean Dickson contributed steady runs to ensure Glamorgan’s comfortable finish. The win underscored Glamorgan’s resilience and Carlson’s commanding leadership, while Somerset were left to regroup after their first defeat in the tournament.
