Kingswood School, a boarding institution in Bath, has expressed profound sorrow after a former pupil came forward with allegations of abuse by a staff member dating back to the 1990s.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to alumni, headmaster Andrew Gordon-Brown revealed that the school had been contacted by an Old Kingswoodian who courageously shared their distressing experience. The school is actively supporting the individual in the wake of these serious allegations.
“We understand that the impact of abuse during childhood and adolescence can be traumatic, lifelong, and life-changing,” the letter states. “We offer our deep sorrow, regret, and genuine compassion to anyone affected by such experiences.”

Gordon-Brown emphasized that safeguarding the wellbeing of all pupils remains the school’s highest priority. Kingswood School undergoes regular inspections by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) and fully complies with all safeguarding and child protection standards.
While the prevailing culture at Kingswood is one of kindness and compassion, the headmaster acknowledged that this was not always the experience for everyone, a fact the school deeply regrets.
The letter encourages former pupils who have been impacted or who possess relevant information to come forward. “We are here to listen and support you,” Gordon-Brown affirmed.
