‘Kind and caring’ school teacher, 24, dies after cocaine and alcohol use

Emily Rose Browning, a 24-year-old primary school teacher known for her kindness and dedication, tragically died after a night of alcohol and cocaine use. Emily, from Midsomer Norton and teaching at Gladstone Primary School in Cardiff, was found collapsed and not breathing in her bedroom after returning home from a night out with friends in December 2024.

The coroner’s inquest revealed that Emily likely choked on her own vomit, leading to a fatal brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation. Coroner Graeme Hughes explained that Emily had consumed alcohol and cocaine during her social evening. Despite friends’ concerns about her well-being, she went to bed where she was later found unresponsive by her boyfriend, who called emergency services. Emily was taken to the University Hospital of Wales but died on December 10.

Family, friends, and colleagues paid heartfelt tribute to Emily, describing her as a “kind, caring, and beautiful young lady” passionate about teaching. The school honored her memory by announcing plans to build a memorial garden that reflects Emily’s nurturing spirit and dedication to fostering curiosity, creativity, and well-being in children.
