Keynsham Shop Shut Down for Selling Illegal Vapes and Tobacco

A Keynsham shop has been ordered to close after sniffer dogs uncovered a vast supply of illegal vapes and tobacco products on the premises.

The Trading Standards team from Bath & North East Somerset Council obtained a three-month Closure Order against Keynsham Mini Market, located at 9 High Street. This action was taken under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, following numerous complaints and investigations linking the shop to ongoing anti-social behaviour in the neighborhood.

The Closure Order was granted by Bath Magistrates' Court after the Trading Standards team presented strong evidence of unlawful activities tied to the sale of illegal vapes and tobacco products, which have contributed to community disorder. The court concluded that the closure was essential to prevent further nuisance and ensure the safety and well-being of local residents.

During the closure period, only named residents and authorized individuals are permitted entry to the premises.

Prior multi-agency inspections involving the council, Avon and Somerset Police, Trading Standards South West, and specially trained detection dogs led to the seizure of more than 1,000 illegal vapes and over 300 illegal tobacco items.

Councillor Tim Ball, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, praised the efforts of the Trading Standards team, stating, “This Closure Order is a significant victory that shows our commitment to addressing community concerns and protecting residents from harm. We are grateful for the support from our partners in achieving this outcome.”
