An outdated estate in Keynsham is set to be demolished early next year to make way for a modern neighbourhood, the housing association Curo has announced. Tintagel Close, recently fenced off, will be replaced with 45 affordable homes offering both social rent and shared ownership options.
Sarah Maylor, Curo’s Director of Development, expressed gratitude to local residents for their involvement in the design process. “Their input has been crucial, and like them, I’m excited to see this site transformed into a vibrant community,” she said. “The new neighbourhood will greatly enhance the local area and provide residents with a fantastic place to call home.”
Constructed in the 1960s, Tintagel Close has long been in decline and was known to contain asbestos. A report by Bath and North East Somerset Council highlighted the estate’s poor condition and the opportunity for significant improvement through redevelopment. The council noted that the project would raise the standard of affordable housing, rejuvenate nearby public spaces, and help reduce current anti-social behaviour.

The new development will include a variety of home sizes ranging from one to four bedrooms, with several units adapted for wheelchair accessibility. Each property will have a private entrance, dedicated parking, and electric vehicle charging points. Additionally, a new access road will improve connectivity in the area.
Most homes in this fully affordable scheme will be offered as subsidised social rent—approximately 40% below market rates—while the remainder will be available through shared ownership, providing more accessible pathways to homeownership.
