Keynsham Estate Set for Demolition to Build New Affordable Homes

The Tintagel Close estate in Keynsham, previously fenced off and slated for demolition, will make way for a new neighbourhood featuring 45 affordable homes. Housing association Curo confirmed the redevelopment is scheduled to commence early next year, transforming the area with modern, accessible housing options.

Built in the 1960s, the estate had fallen into disrepair and contained hazardous materials such as asbestos. Bath and North East Somerset Council reported that the redevelopment presents a significant opportunity not only to improve affordable housing standards but also to enhance public spaces and reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.

Sarah Maylor, Curo’s Director of Development, expressed gratitude to local residents for their input in designing the new scheme. She stated, “Their involvement has been crucial, and we look forward to delivering a neighbourhood that offers a great place to live while improving the local environment.”

The new development will include a variety of homes with one to four bedrooms, many adapted for wheelchair accessibility. Each property will feature a private entrance, designated parking spaces, and electric vehicle charging points. Additionally, a new access road is planned to improve connectivity within the neighbourhood.

Most homes will be offered at subsidised social rent levels, typically 40% below market rates, making them highly affordable for local residents. The remainder will be available through shared ownership schemes, providing opportunities for homeownership at reduced costs.

This redevelopment promises to revitalise the Tintagel Close area, delivering modern, affordable housing while addressing prior safety and social concerns, creating a vibrant community for the future.
