Josie Gibson’s Eco-Home Renovation Challenges Family Bonds

Josie Gibson, 40, is embarking on an ambitious project to convert her rundown Somerset property into an eco-friendly, mostly off-grid home. The transformation, documented in the upcoming ITV series “Josie Gibson’s Big Country Build,” involves close collaboration with her family and local community — including her brothers Josh and Charlie, who work in scrap metal trading, her builder cousin Tom, friends, and locals.

While the project is a dream come true for Josie, the intense demands have put considerable strain on her family relationships. Speaking to ITV’s Good Morning Britain on August 7, 2025, Josie candidly shared, “My dream was always to build an eco-house as off-grid as possible. I roped the family in to help, but they say never work with family and animals — and I’ve done both.”

Josie admitted that the high stress and numerous challenges faced throughout the build sometimes tested her bonds with family members. “They’re amazing, but there have definitely been some challenges,” she acknowledged when asked if the project had strained their relationships.

The difficulties also took a personal toll. Josie revealed she endured many sleepless nights confronting “massive obstacles” during her passion project. “Sometimes you get this great big dream, and you’ve got to follow it, but you don’t realize just how many hurdles are involved,” she reflected.

Situated on four acres, Josie’s new home will feature an on-site gym, a walk-in wardrobe, and blacked-out windows to ensure privacy. The seven-part series will also capture Josie’s efforts to cultivate her own food and generate renewable energy, emphasizing preservation of both her home and the surrounding natural beauty.
