Josie Gibson Dives into Somerset Cider-Making in New ITV Series

ITV’s exciting new series, Josie’s Taste of the Westcountry, brings the rich flavours and vibrant food culture of the South West to viewers nationwide. Hosted by Bristol-born presenter Josie Gibson alongside renowned celebrity chef Paul Ainsworth, the five-episode show takes audiences on a delicious journey through the Westcountry—from Gloucestershire down to Cornwall.

In episode two, Josie dives deep into Somerset’s heritage with a visit to the iconic caverns of Cheddar Gorge. Her adventure continues as she boards a traditional train along the Somerset coastline, learning the delicate arts of oyster shucking and cider-making along the way.

A self-confessed cider lover, Josie relished her time visiting various cider farms, including a memorable encounter with Harry from Harry’s Cider. “I met some incredible people doing incredible things,” she shares. “The Westcountry’s landscapes—from rolling hills to rugged moors and stunning shores—have always held a special place in my heart.”

Josie’s enthusiasm shines as she highlights the region’s exceptional food and drink. “Whether you’re a foodie or just curious, this show offers a wholesome, eye-opening journey,” she says. “I was amazed by the incredible people and craftsmanship right on our doorstep. It’s something we should all be proud of.”

Alongside Josie, Paul Ainsworth, whose Michelin-starred restaurant Paul Ainsworth at Number 6 in Padstow is among the UK’s top 100, showcases the art of transforming local ingredients into exquisite dishes. Josie recalls their collaboration fondly: “Meeting Paul was a real privilege. His layered, flavour-rich creations opened my eyes to new culinary dimensions. It was an unforgettable experience.”

Looking ahead, Josie dreams of dining at Paul’s exclusive restaurant and visiting Rick Stein’s son Jack’s eatery in Cornwall, reaffirming her passion for the Westcountry’s food scene.
