RNLI is seeking passionate individuals to join as lifeguards for the upcoming peak season on the beaches at Burnham-on-Sea and Brean in Somerset. In 2024, RNLI lifeguards in the south west responded to 6,892 incidents, aided 9,178 people, and saved 43 lives, highlighting the crucial role of lifeguards in beach safety.

Prospective lifeguards will undergo a specialized training course at Weston Beach in North Somerset, focusing on rescue skills, first aid, core lifeguard skills, fitness, and classroom sessions. Following the training, an assessment day will be conducted in June to evaluate candidates' readiness to join the lifeguard team.

Brett Schofield, Somerset’s Lifeguard Supervisor, emphasized the unique experience of being an RNLI lifeguard, highlighting the world-class training in rescue techniques and casualty care, along with the opportunity to be part of a team dedicated to beach safety.
Applicants aged 16 and above who meet the swimming and running requirements are encouraged to apply to become part of the local Sedgemoor RNLI beach lifeguard service.
