Jeremy Clarkson has candidly shared the personal difficulties he faced while filming the fourth season of his Amazon Prime Video hit, Clarkson’s Farm. Known for spotlighting the realities of British farming since the show’s debut in 2021, Clarkson has won fans worldwide by blending humor with an honest look at agricultural life.
However, behind the scenes of this beloved series, Clarkson was battling serious health issues. Last year, he underwent emergency heart surgery after doctors discovered a fully blocked artery. This health scare coincided with a particularly demanding period on the farm, where Clarkson was managing both farming duties and the grand opening of his new pub.
Reflecting on that challenging time, Clarkson told The Sun, “You can see me becoming more and more ill as the days go on, because I just lose my sense of humour, lose my ability to stay calm. I get in a proper old panic.” He admitted he didn’t fully understand the severity of his condition while filming and juggling intense responsibilities: “I didn’t know at the time. I knew I wasn’t being me. I was trying to get the pub open for the August Bank Holiday weekend and, at the same time, doing the harvest on the farm.”

The demanding routine, which included late-night grain carting and constant stress, pushed Clarkson to a breaking point. Even after surgery, he struggled to regain his usual energy and enthusiasm. In a heartfelt piece for The Sunday Times, he expressed a renewed determination to focus on his health for the sake of his grandchildren. “I’m not going to dwell on the joys of being a grandparent because what can be said about it has already been said,” he wrote. “But I have decided that it is so wonderful that I want it to go on for as long as is humanly possible.”
Despite the difficulties, Clarkson’s Farm remains a fan favourite, with the fifth season currently in production. However, Clarkson has hinted that a break may be necessary moving forward to allow him to prioritize his health.
In another recent health scare in October 2024, Clarkson was hospitalized and received a stent after a sudden deterioration in his heart condition. He also recounted a frightening experience on a diving holiday when he felt his lungs filling with water—a moment that made clear just how precarious his health had become.
