Jazz Legend James Pearson to Perform at The Pump Room in Bath

One of the world’s most iconic jazz venues, Ronnie Scott’s in London’s Soho, has been graced by countless legends. Now, the vibrant music scene in Bath is buzzing with excitement as its own celebrated musician, James Pearson, returns to perform at The Pump Room with his trio. This exclusive concert is part of the prestigious Bath Festivals lineup.

Bath’s Festival season kicked off with Party in the City last week, and James Pearson’s upcoming concert promises to be a standout highlight. Fresh from a series of acclaimed performances at New York’s Carnegie Hall, James is widely regarded as one of today’s finest jazz pianists.

Throughout his impressive career, he has shared the stage with legendary artists such as Cleo Laine, Petula Clark, Robbie Williams, Rufus Wainwright, Imelda May, and Nigel Kennedy. This concert is designed for everyone—not just jazz aficionados—to enjoy a captivating musical journey through 125 years of jazz history.

On the evening of June 2, James Pearson will perform timeless jazz classics, weaving stories about iconic singers, songwriters, and musicians during the breaks between songs. His passion for the genre and deep knowledge bring a unique, engaging dimension to the show.

James has strong ties to Bath; his mother was born here, and his parents lived in Englishcombe, a village just outside the city, where he spent many cherished holidays. Though he hasn’t performed in Bath for 18 years, he is eagerly anticipating his return.

“I am very excited to be coming back to Bath,” James said. “I have so many fond memories. It truly is a beautiful place, and performing at The Pump Room will be really special.”

His family is notable in the local community, having helped establish the garden centre Hilliers on Whiteway Road. With close relatives still living in the city, Bath remains close to his heart. Notably, James’ first jazz record—a Fats Waller album—was bought for him at Milsom Records in Bath during the 1970s, sparking his lifelong love of jazz and marking the beginning of his remarkable journey.

The James Pearson Trio will take the stage at The Pump Room on Tuesday, June 2, with the concert starting at 9:30 pm. Bath Festival also features other distinguished performances at The Pump Room, including virtuoso accordionist Ryan Corbett and classical-jazz pianist Tom Poster.

The Pump Room is set to be a hub of magical music experiences over the coming weeks—a truly special time for the city’s thriving cultural scene.
