Janet Montgomery Appointed High Sheriff of Somerset

Janet Montgomery, a born and bred Somerset woman, has been appointed as the new high sheriff of the county. The independent, non-political position is appointed by the monarchy for a one-year term and includes representing King Charles in Somerset on matters of law and order.

Janet, a qualified chartered surveyor and town planner, has spent most of her professional career as a partner in a west country firm of architects and surveyors, and remains a consultant there. She has also contributed her time and assistance to various local and charitable causes. Janet has extensive experience in education as a governor at both primary and secondary schools.

During her term, Janet is committed to supporting the judiciary, law enforcement, and voluntary and charitable organizations in Somerset, with a particular focus on mentoring and development initiatives for young people. She aims to support charities and organizations that create opportunities for children and young people, nurturing individual potential and preventing their involvement in risk-taking behavior and exploitation.
