James Bond Favourite Aaron Taylor-Johnson Set to Win Planning Approval for Somerset Farmhouse Courtyard

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the leading contender to be the next James Bond, is on course to win a planning approval for alterations to the courtyard of his Grade II listed farmhouse in Somerset. The actor and his film director wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson, have applied to Somerset Council to dismantle and reposition part of a courtyard wall and raise a section of the external boundary wall to create a larger internal area.

Their representatives explained that the proposed changes aim to “enhance its spatial relationship with the principal house” and provide a more practical private outdoor space for the family. While the application is still under review, Leigh on Mendip Parish Council, after visiting the site, recommended approval.

The parish council praised the careful planning involved, noting the intention to reuse existing stone or match new materials with traditional cock and hen coping, flush jointing, and lime mortar to preserve the listed building’s character. They acknowledged some harm due to the demolition of part of the wall but deemed it limited given its altered appearance.

Supporting documents highlighted the use of traditional materials and skills to maintain the historic fabric and aesthetic value of the walls. The applicants respectfully requested planning permission and listed building consent, citing compliance with local and national planning policies.

This proposal is the latest in a sequence of improvements by the couple. Earlier this year, they won over neighbours with the installation of a pond that has been praised for increasing local biodiversity. Despite initial controversy over plans to excavate a large lake on the property, retrospective consent was granted, and inspections raised no issues with the pond’s operation.

Neighbours have noted a marked increase in birdlife since the pond’s completion. Local resident Amy Fukuyama expressed her enthusiasm, observing flocks of geese and the presence of a tawny owl she had not heard before. She welcomes the return of biodiversity to the Mendip Hills and supports developments that foster local wildlife.

The farmhouse, formerly owned by “Grand Designs” presenter Kevin McCleod, continues to benefit from the couple’s thoughtful stewardship, blending heritage preservation with environmental enhancement.
