Experienced fast bowler Jake Ball has committed to Somerset for the 2027 season, signing a new one-year contract with the county. Now aged 35, Ball is in the latter stages of his career but remains a vital asset for Somerset across all three competitions. He has pledged to maintain his high standards in pursuit of further silverware for the club.
Reflecting on his time with Somerset, Ball said, “I love playing for Somerset, and the 2025 Vitality Blast victory was definitely a career highlight for me. Since joining the club, we have consistently performed strongly on all fronts. Given the quality within our squad, I am confident this trend will continue in years to come.”
He added, “I will keep giving everything I have in all formats to help Somerset win matches. I am excited to contribute both on and off the field next season, as well as in our current push for this year’s County Championship. The support we receive is truly outstanding, and everyone in the dressing room is committed to giving our Members plenty to cheer about by season’s end.”

Ball is expected to feature in Somerset’s upcoming home County Championship match against Essex on Thursday. After eight games, Somerset sit second in the table, five points behind leaders Nottinghamshire and level on points with third-placed Warwickshire. Essex lie sixth, six points behind Somerset, while favourites Sussex and Glamorgan remain strong contenders in an open title race.
A former England international with 24 caps, Ball joined Somerset in 2024 following a 14-year spell at Nottinghamshire. He has made 59 appearances for Somerset thus far, taking 97 wickets including two crucial scalps in last summer’s T20 Final victory over Hampshire.
