Investigation Underway Following Massive Fire at Frome Warehouse

A significant fire erupted at the Saxonvale warehouse site in Frome on Wednesday, July 1, prompting an extensive emergency response. Around 3 p.m., flames and thick smoke enveloped the Western Warehouse building, leading to immediate mobilization of firefighting teams.

Multiple nearby buildings were evacuated to ensure public safety, including the Silk Mill and the former Notts Industries office. Firefighters worked intensively to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

Eight fire engines from across Somerset arrived promptly, bolstered by support from Avon, Dorset, and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services. In total, over 100 personnel were deployed to tackle the fire, according to Frome Fire Station. The station also commended Devon and Somerset Fire Control for their efficient coordination during the incident.

Although only around eight percent of the warehouse suffered fire damage, the entire structure endured severe smoke damage. The heat caused the building’s roof to collapse. Authorities are currently investigating the fire’s origin, with police presence maintained overnight.

Somerset Council expressed gratitude to the emergency services and confirmed no injuries have been reported. The site remains under emergency control while fire investigators, council officials, and police collaborate to determine the cause and assess structural safety.
