A murder investigation has been officially closed following the discovery of a missing 23-year-old man’s body in North Dorset. The man was last seen in the early hours of Saturday, May 17, 2025, near Station Road, Sturminster Newton.
His body was discovered approximately one week later, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, around 12:45 pm at Newton Hill, close to Sturminster Newton. Dorset Police initially arrested a man in his 30s from Blandford on suspicion of murder, but he was later released under investigation.
After a comprehensive inquiry including detailed toxicological and pathological analyses, officers concluded there was no evidence of third-party involvement in the young man’s death. The suspect has been cleared and will face no further police action.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said, “The arrest was made to assist officers with gathering all possible information and to ensure legal protections were in place for all involved. Following an extensive investigation, we are satisfied that the death was not caused by anyone else.”
The family of the deceased has been kept informed throughout the investigation, and police expressed their sympathies during this difficult time. The case will now proceed to inquest, with detectives continuing to support HM Coroner as required.
