Inside Somerset’s Unity Beach: A £15 Million Transformation Redefining British Holiday Parks

Brean’s iconic sandy shoreline and familiar family caravans might look unchanged, but behind the scenes, Unity Beach is undergoing one of the UK’s most ambitious holiday park revamps. Spearheaded by marketing director Andrew Sheerin and backed by a £15 million investment from Unity Holidays, this transformation balances fresh innovation with deep respect for its cherished heritage.

Once known as Holiday Resort Unity, the park has evolved through generations. The House family nurtured it into a local favourite, and now industry veterans Mark Seaton and Dermot King, founders with roots in the iconic Haven parks, have acquired the site to usher in a new era of seaside holidays. This carefully planned transition reflects years of collaboration and a shared vision to enhance what already worked, not replace it.

Renaming the site ‘Unity Beach’ signals a refined and modern identity—one that meets today’s family expectations without sacrificing the classic charm. Central to this reinvention is a focus on guest experience, which Andrew calls the park’s “true currency.” Food, entertainment, and family-friendly environments are no longer extras; they are the foundation of Unity Beach’s appeal.

At the heart of this investment is a stunning new entertainment complex replacing the old tavern. While the footprint remains, the interior boasts four distinct venues: the Pavilion Theatre with cutting-edge shows and immersive digital backdrops; The Wonky Donkey, a vibrant family dining spot featuring fresh pizza ovens; a state-of-the-art arcade; and a lively sports bar with interactive games like pool and digital darts. This diversity gives guests the freedom to eat, play, and relax however they prefer—an approach families deeply appreciate.

Importantly, these upgrades come without hiking prices. Despite major investments, Unity Beach maintains competitive pricing, including affordable drinks, ensuring quality remains accessible.

Caravan owners form the backbone of the park’s community. Unity Beach uniquely prioritises owner rentals before park bookings, reversing standard industry practice. Complementing this, the launch of an exclusive owners’ lounge with free coffee and newspapers fosters a welcoming atmosphere for long-term residents. The addition of 40 modern caravans, complete with all the comforts, caters to both new and existing owners, with affordability and accessibility a key focus amid rising costs.

Entertainment at Unity Beach is dynamic and people-first. Moving beyond formulaic shows, the team offers spontaneous street theatre, digital pantomimes, and casual musical moments that invite guests to fully engage and create lasting memories. Andrew recalls a mother’s heartfelt thanks when her shy children found confidence performing on stage—a vivid example of the park’s nurturing spirit.

The park’s design encourages exploration: a traffic-free thoroughfare inspired by traditional seaside piers, lined with games, venues, and entertainment zones. This layout offers a safe, vibrant environment where families can roam freely and discover surprises at every turn.

Unity Beach’s impact extends beyond its gates through active collaboration with local partners. Andrew’s involvement with Brean’s “Brean Scene” group illustrates their commitment to regional success, pooling resources and marketing efforts to boost Brean’s reputation as a top holiday destination. Swimming pools serve local schools, and cross-park dining options encourage community integration, benefiting the wider economy.

Although much of the transformation is visible today, Unity Beach has ambitious plans ahead, with a future development roadmap focused on consistent, quality improvements. Andrew emphasizes a steady, detail-oriented philosophy that builds loyalty through trust and reliability rather than quick fixes.

Changing public perception remains a challenge. For some, Unity’s name still evokes the past. Yet visitors who experience Unity Beach’s fresh energy quickly become advocates, spreading positive word of mouth and uplifting the park’s reputation.

Unity Beach’s official reopening on May 24 invites new and returning guests to explore its refreshed facilities and vibrant atmosphere. This revitalised park isn’t about reinventing the wheel—it’s about making the British seaside holiday smoother, more joyful, and perfectly suited for today’s families, all while honoring its roots.

As Andrew concludes, “Experience is everything. That’s what we’re here to create.”
