Step into Nommees in Burnham-on-Sea, and you’ll be warmly greeted by two charming pooches — Xena, a mini Labradoodle proudly dubbed the floor manager, and Rocky, a loyal Pekingese who takes his role as head of security seriously.
This is Burnham’s first and only soft play centre designed exclusively for dogs. Outside, an exciting obstacle course awaits, featuring tunnels, oversized rubber tires, and even a playful ball-filled brook—all engineered to keep pups entertained and active.
Nommees owner Paul Thorne created this unique hub after spotting a gap in the market for genuinely dog-focused spaces. “Many cafes welcome dogs, but they aren’t really made with dogs in mind,” Paul explains. “I wanted a place where dogs can truly be comfortable and have fun.”

While furry friends romp freely, their humans relax in cozy repurposed stable booths, sipping coffee and enjoying cake. The café’s walls proudly display the “Ten Commandments” — a friendly reminder of the house rules encouraging responsible and respectful pet ownership. Guests are asked to supervise their dogs, navigate carefully, clean up after their pets, and consider the wellbeing of all canine visitors.
Beyond play, Nommees boasts a premium pet food shop that caters to discerning pups. From venison sticks and pheasant burgers to playful dog “pizzas,” the selection is as diverse as it is delicious. Paul, who started his career in the pet food industry, is especially fond of the “cod coins.”
The community spirit is evident too — one regular customer shared, “Best place in Burnham! I bring my silky black lurcher here all the time; she just loves it.”
Open seven days a week, Nommees welcomes both dogs and their owners Monday through Wednesday from 8 am to 6 pm, Thursday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm, and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm. Here, dogs don’t just visit—they get to paw-ty.
