Independent Boujee Somerset Town Invites You to Help Make It Even Cooler

What comes to mind when you think of Frome’s Market Yard? For many, it’s more than just a car park—it’s a vibrant hub where markets flourish and visitors first step into the heart of the town centre.

Nestled by the river and surrounded by vital cultural landmarks—Frome Library, the Cheese and Grain, Canoe Club, Black Swan Arts, and Frome Museum—Market Yard is a space brimming with potential.

Now, Frome Town Council is eager to breathe new life into this gateway, aiming to create an inviting, lively space that reflects the town’s unique independent spirit. But they can’t do it alone—they want your ideas, whether big or small, to shape the future of Market Yard.

Residents have already contributed exciting suggestions: envision a riverside amphitheatre hosting live music and performances, a trendy shipping container food court offering diverse culinary delights, and a series of smaller yet impactful improvements like increased greenery and litter-picking initiatives.

One local shared their vision: “Imagine a boardwalk at river level, perfect for summer days where people can sit with their feet in the cool water, truly connecting with the river in a way that’s not possible now.”

Another suggested channeling the revitalization seen at Boyle Cross by adding planters, sculptures, street art, and cobbled sections to enhance Market Yard’s charm and make it an appealing spot to relax or shop.

The council also invites ideas on events and activities for Market Yard and its neighbouring cultural venues, ensuring the space serves as a dynamic community hub.

Councillor Nick Dove emphasizes the importance of this project: “Market Yard holds tremendous potential. As a key entrance to our town centre, it shapes visitors’ first impressions. Your creative input can help us co-design a thriving space that benefits residents, businesses, and cultural venues alike.”
