The Ilminster Party on the Park, a cherished annual event held on the Sunday of the August bank holiday, is gearing up for another memorable day filled with fun, community spirit, and charity fundraising. Since its inception in 2012, originally created to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, the event has grown impressively, raising over £110,000 for local and national charities.
This vibrant festival, taking place on Sunday, August 24, from 10am to 8pm on the Recreation Ground, features a fantastic array of activities. Attendees can enjoy a classic car show, a family dog show, live bands and dancers, charity and food stalls, a barbecue, cream teas and cakes, a bar, bouncy castles for children, raffles, and tombolas. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Organisers Emma Jayne and Matt Sainsbury are now calling on the local community to help make this year’s event the best yet. They need volunteers to assist with running the event and are also seeking sponsors to help fund the various activities, especially the family dog show, which is a highlight of the day.

Emma said, “We are in the final stages of planning, but there’s still time to get involved. If you can offer support or would like to run a fundraising charity stall, please email [email protected]. We aim to feature a diverse range of stalls representing numerous charity groups to ensure there’s something for everyone.”
Matt added, “With an exciting entertainment lineup and the addition of the dog show run by local business Canine Kate, the day promises to be fun-packed for people and pets alike. While we can’t control the weather, we hope for sunshine to accompany the festivities.”
Classic car enthusiasts are also invited to bring their vehicles and showcase them at the event by contacting the organisers.
