Disneyland is synonymous with joy and magic for guests of all ages, often representing a treasured trip that people save and plan for carefully. Yet, not every visit goes smoothly. Recently, a visitor to Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, found himself caught in an unexpected controversy over his choice of attire.
Faith Boyd shared a TikTok video showing her husband’s disgruntled apology to the rules as he navigated the park wearing his T-shirt inside out. He had been told by Disney staff that his original shirt was not permitted, and without a spare, turning the shirt inside out was his only option.
The shirt featured a black-and-white Mickey Mouse design wearing military gear and holding a firearm, with the phrase “Full Metal Mouse” emblazoned beneath. According to Disney’s dress code guidelines, clothing containing “objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics,” can be grounds for denial of entry.

Though Faith didn’t specify the exact reason, many commenters understood the issue clearly: Disney’s family-friendly environment means that depictions of weapons, even on beloved characters, are not acceptable. Visitors pointed out that promoting gun imagery in a place filled with young children—some who face real fears related to gun violence—is inappropriate.
The reactions were largely in favor of Disney’s decision. “It’s common sense not to wear shirts with guns in a kids’ park,” one commenter explained. Another added, “After seeing the shirt, I completely agree with the dress code enforcement.”
Disney itself encourages visitors to use discretion and common sense when selecting attire for the park, emphasizing comfort and family-friendliness. Their policies also prohibit costumes and masks on guests without authorization to prevent confusion or safety risks, especially involving young children mistaking visitors for official characters.
While dress codes may seem strict to some, they serve to maintain a safe, welcoming, and age-appropriate environment for everyone. This incident underscores the importance of choosing park-appropriate clothing—one that aligns with Disney’s values of fun and inclusivity without causing offense or discomfort.
