Stepping into Nommees in Burnham-on-Sea, you’re warmly greeted by two friendly canines: Xena, a mini labradoodle who playfully holds the title of “floor manager,” and Rocky, a Pekinese who proudly takes on the role of “head of security.” These charming mascots set the welcoming tone for Burnham’s first and only dog soft play centre.
Outside, a vibrant playground awaits. An assault course, tunnels, large rubber tires, and even a babbling brook filled with balls offer endless fun for pups of all sizes and energies. Paul Thorne, the visionary behind Nommees, recognized a gap in the market for a truly dog-centered venue: “There are plenty of dog-friendly cafés, but they’re not necessarily designed with dogs in mind. I wanted a place where you could bring your dogs and feel completely comfortable.”
Inside, owners can relax in cozy, repurposed outdoor stable booths with a coffee and cake in hand, while keeping an eye on their furry companions having the time of their lives. The walls display a set of Ten Commandments for guests, outlining essential house rules such as supervising your dog, cleaning up after them, and using the play equipment responsibly.

But Nommees isn’t just about playtime. It’s also home to a premium pet food shop stocked with gourmet treats ranging from venison sticks and pheasant burgers to dog-friendly ‘pizzas.’ Paul, who began his career in the pet food trade, shares his current favourite: ‘cod coins.’
Chatting with a regular customer and her silky black lurcher, it’s clear that Nommees has become a beloved local hotspot. “Best place in Burnham,” she says without hesitation. “How often do I bring her down? All the time. She loves it.”
When asked about his favourite aspect of Nommees, Paul grins: “My favourite is the food—for the dogs, of course. I’m not too fussed about the humans.”
Nommees welcomes visitors seven days a week, with extended hours from Thursday to Saturday to give your pooch even more playtime.
