In October 2024, the popular bar chain Sixes opened its first Bristol location on the vibrant Harbourside. But Sixes is much more than just a typical bar experience.
If you’ve grown tired of the usual social activities like bowling or mini golf, Sixes offers an exciting alternative with its innovative virtual cricket experience. Unlike most bars, it combines great food and drinks with a one-of-a-kind interactive game.
The highlight? Virtual cricket batting nets equipped with huge screens and real balls. Virtual bowlers deliver the ball on screen, then a ball is physically bowled at you to bat. Initially skeptical, I was impressed by how smoothly this unique setup works.

Though my cricket skills have been rusty since childhood, the game was surprisingly accessible and fun. I visited Sixes with my partner and friends, including a keen cricket player who brought added expertise. The friendly staff kickstarted our session with a pre-game cocktail and a clear explanation of how the simulators operate.
Players can choose from different game modes and set difficulty levels from 1 to 5 (I stuck to the easiest!). We began with the “classic” T20 mode, which mimics a T20 cricket match. Despite my limited ability, I found it easy to understand and quickly got into the spirit of the game.
Each player had a personal leaderboard and could customize their experience by choosing their preferred bat. Although I finished last, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment.
Switching game modes during our 45-minute slot added variety. Towards the end, we tried an elimination mode where players had to beat the previous batter’s score or lose a life. I was the first out again, but the competitive atmosphere made it all the more entertaining.
The time flew by, thanks to Sixes’ simple yet engaging take on virtual cricket. Comfortable tables and seating next to each batting net meant we could enjoy our drinks while taking turns at the game.
After playing, we settled by the window overlooking Harbourside to satisfy our hunger with burgers from the menu. Given the sports focus of the venue, I didn’t expect much from the food, but I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty, generous portions and varied options.
All in all, I’m eager to visit again. Sixes offers a refreshing, fun night out without feeling exhausting afterward. Whether you’re a cricket pro or newbie like me, it’s a fantastic spot for friends and family to enjoy themselves.
Sessions start from £9.50 for a half-hour batting net slot during off-peak hours, with a “pre-game happy hour” for drinks available beforehand.
