I Tried Bar and Block’s £10 Steak and Left Feeling More Than Satisfied

Many of us crave a quality steak but often hold back due to budget constraints, reserving it only for special occasions. However, Bar and Block, a popular steakhouse in Bath, has changed the game with its new £10 lunch menu launched this summer, making sirloin and other steaks more accessible than ever.

Available Monday to Friday from 11:30am to 5pm, this affordable menu offers a main course for just £10—an unbeatable price for a steakhouse experience.

From the moment I arrived, the staff made the visit memorable. After mistakenly going to the Bristol location instead of Bath, the team leader was incredibly understanding and managed to fit us into the Bath restaurant without any hassle.

The design of Bar and Block enhances the dining experience. The open-plan kitchen lets diners watch chefs expertly cook steaks over an open flame right in front of them. A unique feature is the black charcoal oven, visible from your table, used for select signature dishes marked with a special symbol on the menu. A sleek island lined with steak knives adds to the ambiance, as you can watch your steak carved to perfection before it reaches your plate.

For starters, we chose the salt and pepper squid with lemon aioli (£3.50). Its crispy batter paired with a garlicky aioli set an excellent tone for the meal ahead.

When it came to the main course, the £10 rump steak and frites was already a great deal, but the option to upgrade to an 8oz sirloin for just an additional £4.50 was tempting. My partner chose the sirloin, arriving perfectly medium-rare and bathed in a decadent garlic butter glaze.

I opted for the £10 steak sandwich on flatbread and couldn’t resist adding a £1 layer of melted cheddar. The sandwich was delicious, with the cheese bringing everything together in a wonderfully indulgent way.

While it’s possible to enjoy a budget-friendly steak lunch here, the tempting extras like sides and desserts make it hard to stay within just the £10. Sharing a sticky toffee pudding (£3.50) was a perfect decision—the warm, gooey dessert paired with vanilla ice cream delighted us both. Though my partner was hesitant about sticky toffee before, this dessert won her over entirely.

Bar and Block’s new lunch menu strikes a fine balance between value and quality. Whether you stick to the £10 steak or give in to irresistible additions, you will leave satisfied.

The Bath location is open daily—from 11:30am to 11pm Monday through Saturday and noon to 10:30pm on Sundays—with the £10 lunch menu available on weekdays from 11:30am to 5pm. Their sister restaurant in Bristol offers the same menu and hours.
