Hutton Hill Road Reopens After 17-Month Closure Due to Wall Collapse

Hutton Hill Road in Hutton has reopened after being closed for 17 months following a structural collapse of a private wall in February 2024. The closure was implemented by North Somerset Council to ensure the safety of residents and road users, preventing potential damage to nearby properties and hazards from falling debris.

The council collaborated closely with the property owners responsible for the wall’s repair, who took significant time to resolve the complex structural issues. Repair efforts were prolonged due to the intricate nature of the damage.

Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member for roads, expressed relief at the reopening. “We understand the inconvenience this closure caused to residents and motorists, but it was essential given the serious structural damage. We worked alongside the owners to provide support throughout the process,” she said.

Ward member Cllr Mike Solomon added, “Safety had to be our priority, even though it meant a long closure. I’m very pleased that Hutton Hill Road is now reopened and that traffic can flow without detours through the village.”
