Hutton Hill Road Reopens After 17-Month Closure Due to Wall Collapse

Hutton Hill Road in Hutton has officially reopened after being closed for 17 months since February 2024. The closure was necessary after a private wall collapsed, posing a serious safety risk to residents and road users.

North Somerset Council collaborated closely with the property owners responsible for the damaged wall to facilitate repairs. The council initially closed the road to prevent further structural damage to nearby properties and to protect the public from falling debris.

Repairing the wall was a complex task that fell to the property owners, requiring careful planning and time to complete. Councillor Hannah Young, cabinet member for roads at North Somerset Council, expressed relief at the reopening.

“We understand the inconvenience caused by this extended closure, but safety concerns left us with no alternative,” she said. “We have worked alongside the owners to offer support and guidance throughout the repair process.”

Councillor Mike Solomon, ward member for Hutton and Locking, added, “Safety was our top priority, which meant keeping the road closed despite the disruption. I am pleased the road is now open and local traffic can flow freely without diversion.”

The reopening marks the end of a challenging period for residents and road users in Hutton, restoring normal traffic flow and improving accessibility throughout the village.
