Hundreds of Ice-Skating Elves to Take Over Somerset in Record-Breaking Event

Somerset is gearing up for a festive spectacle as Clarks Village prepares to launch its seasonal ice rink with an ambitious event: the “World’s Biggest Elf Skate.” On Thursday, November 13, hundreds of skaters dressed as elves will hit the ice in a bid to break a new world record.

The event is open to anyone sporting an elf costume, complete with pointy hats and festive tights, and includes free skate hire. While attendance is free for those in costume, advance booking of tickets is required to join the celebration.

Ice skating will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., with the official world record attempt scheduled between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Participants in the record attempt will each receive a commemorative rosette, and prizes will be awarded for the best festive fancy dress.

Chris Davis, Centre Director of Clarks Village, shared his excitement: “The festive ice rink at Clarks Village has become a much-loved holiday tradition. Building on the success of last year’s Santa Skate, we wanted to kick off this season with a truly magical event. The World’s Biggest Elf Skate promises to be a fun, family-friendly celebration full of festive cheer. We look forward to welcoming hundreds of elves on ice for a celebration that will make Christmas 2025 unforgettable.”

This collaborative event, hosted in partnership with the Shoemakers Museum, will be led by Santa Claus and his head elf, who are expected to make a special appearance from the North Pole to spread holiday joy.

The rink itself, located within the grounds of the Alfred Gillett Trust’s Shoemakers Museum, spans 550 square meters and features real ice. Designed by Icescape, it will be open daily (except Christmas Day) from Tuesday, November 11 through Sunday, January 4.

General skating sessions start at £13.50 for children aged 12 and under, £15.50 for adults, and family tickets begin at £50. A 20% early bird discount is available until midnight on Monday, November 10, excluding two-for-one sessions. Additional themed sessions and special offers will be accessible through Clarks Village’s PLUS+ rewards program online.

Don your elf costume, lace up your skates, and join this enchanting festive tradition as Somerset embraces the holiday spirit on ice.
