Hundreds Cycle Coast to Coast to Celebrate Air Ambulance’s 25th Anniversary and Raise Vital Funds

Over 250 cyclists from across Somerset gathered on Saturday, May 10, to tackle the challenging 55-mile Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge in support of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’s 25th anniversary.

The event began at Watchet on the north coast and concluded in West Bay on the south coast, welcoming riders of all ages and skill levels. Participants set their own pace, many cycling alongside friends, family, and colleagues.

Leading the charge was Bryn Miller, the first male rider to complete the route, closely followed by Olivia Cheetham, the first female to finish. Among the youngest riders, William Faulkner proudly became the first child to complete the challenge.

As a charity-run event, the Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge is not a race but a community effort to raise essential funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. The charity relies solely on donations, receiving no direct government or National Lottery funding.

Emma Jones, the charity’s events and challenges officer, remarked, “It was an incredible day filled with sunshine, spirit, and unwavering support—from participants, volunteers, and spectators alike. We are truly thankful to everyone who made this year’s event so memorable, especially during our 25th anniversary celebrations.”

She continued, “Witnessing the determination and enthusiasm of every participant was inspiring. We deeply appreciate everyone who took part and supported our cause.”

The funds raised will contribute directly to the air ambulance’s operational costs, enabling the team to provide critical emergency care to patients across Dorset and Somerset throughout the year.
