This morning, a significant fire broke out in an outbuilding in the village of Witham Friary, prompting firefighters from four stations across the region to respond.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received the initial calls at 9:31 AM reporting a fire in the large outbuilding, measuring approximately five by twenty meters. Two fire engines were quickly dispatched from Frome and Shepton Mallet. Upon arrival, the crews assessed the situation and requested additional assistance. Subsequently, two more fire appliances arrived from Castle Cary and Warminster, with support provided by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters found the central part of the structure fully engulfed, with flames spreading to the roof space. By 10:11 AM, crews had deployed a hose reel jet, a triple extension ladder, and ceiling hooks to create a firebreak and contain the fire.
