On April 27, I will once again be lacing up my running shoes to take on the grueling London Marathon as part of Team Macmillan, all in support of the charity that has been a source of immense help and comfort to many.
Undoubtedly, this challenge presents both physical and mental hurdles, but each step I take and every mile I conquer is dedicated to a cause larger than myself: it’s in loving memory of my Grandad.
In 2024, I completed the marathon and raised over £4,000 for Macmillan, and this year, I am determined to surpass that achievement.

It’s no easy feat to maintain rigorous training, especially while balancing personal obligations, but the memory of my Grandad serves as unwavering motivation.
I can sense his presence, envisioning him cheering me on just as he always did.
My Grandad was the pillar of our family. He possessed an extraordinary gift for filling a room with joy - igniting laughter, mastering the BBQ, and ensuring everyone’s happiness.
His love was boundless; his life revolved around us. I miss his smile, his laughter, and most of all, I yearn to make him proud.
This venture is not solely about running; I am also organizing a special fundraising event at the Keinton Mandeville Village Hall on Chistles Ln, Somerton, on Saturday (April 5) from 9 am to 2 pm.
More than just a gathering, this event aims to unite us, celebrate cherished memories, and make a meaningful impact for those confronting cancer.
Participants can relish in:
- Delightful breakfast baps crafted by the remarkable team at Gamesmaster Cafe in Ilminster, a business committed to nurturing young adults in Somerset through employment opportunities and independence.
- Engaging face painting and entertainment provided by Wildest Wonders Events in Wookey.
- Delectable ice cream treats generously served up by J&S Ices, a family-operated enterprise in Chard.
- Heartwarming homemade cakes contributed by gifted local bakers.
Furthermore, a silent auction will feature an array of splendid prizes, from a crate of Thatchers Cider to a complimentary personal training session with Average Joe Personal Trainer, and a family pass to Pop Up Play Village, among many others.
Macmillan extended crucial support to my Grandad during his most trying times, but for the charity to continue aiding others, it necessitates our support. I implore you to join us, bring your loved ones, and aid in making a difference.
From the depths of my heart - thank you.
