Homeless Man Threatens Owner, Steals Jaguar During Test Drive

Callum Foster, a 27-year-old homeless man from Chippenham, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after robbing a Jaguar XF during a test drive. Foster pleaded guilty to robbery and driving without a licence or insurance at Winchester Crown Court on August 13.

The incident began when Foster met the vehicle’s owner in Bath under the pretense of purchasing the car. After discussing a test drive, Foster suggested they travel to Devizes to collect payment for the sale. Instead, he diverted the trip to Salisbury Plain, where he threatened the owner with what was believed to be a gun, claiming he was sent to kill him.

Following the threat, Foster forced the owner to a train station in Bradford-on-Avon, where he was left stranded. Foster then took off with the Jaguar, which had been advertised for sale.

Law enforcement units tracked Foster and the stolen vehicle to Leigh Delamere services off the M4 the next day, leading to his arrest. A second man found with Foster during the arrest was released without charges.

In addition to the prison sentence, Foster received six points on his driving licence and was ordered to pay a £228 surcharge.

Detective Sergeant Toni Nugent commented on the distress caused to the victim and noted the coordinated police efforts that brought the offender to justice. She emphasized the risk of trusting strangers during private vehicle sales and hopes the sentence offers some closure to the victim.
