Renowned actor Rupert Everett is lending a hand behind the bar at The Swan, a local pub in Enford, Wiltshire, to help prevent its closure. At 66, Everett is embracing this community effort, sharing with ITV’s Good Morning Britain that he’s “doing pretty well” at pulling pints as part of a volunteer rota.
The Swan had shuttered a few months ago, but like many rural pubs facing tough times, it’s vital to the village’s social fabric. Everett explained, “Without a pub in a village, especially one eight miles from the nearest town, it’s sad. It’s a place for communication and community.” Recognizing its importance, villagers rallied to keep the pub alive by taking on various roles, including Everett’s shifts behind the bar.
Everett encouraged travelers along the A345 to stop by for a drink, reflecting his commitment to the cause. “I should say where it is. Anyone going past Enford, go to The Swan for a drink,” he said. He anticipates returning to bar duty “probably at the end of the month.”

Beyond his dedication to The Swan, Everett remains active in his acting career. Known for iconic roles in films like Another Country, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and An Ideal Husband, he is optimistic about reprising his role as George Downes in the yet-to-be-written sequel to My Best Friend’s Wedding. When asked about the sequel, he remarked, “It’s only been commissioned in the writing stage,” adding, “Let’s hope Julia Roberts returns too. You have to be ready for all options.”
Additionally, Everett will appear in the upcoming second series of Rivals, the Disney+ adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s novel. He praised the show for its fresh take on the 1980s, noting, “It’s a really good look at the 1980s, a difficult period to portray because while it’s similar to today, it’s also very different.”
By combining his passion for acting with his commitment to community, Rupert Everett exemplifies how celebrities can make a real difference locally while continuing to thrive on the screen.
