Historic Bath Pub to Reopen Following Extensive Renovation

The White Hart Inn, a historic Grade II-listed pub in Widcombe, Bath, is poised for a remarkable transformation after plans for its restoration received official approval. Closed since March 2024, this beloved local landmark has been acquired by Somerset’s Walcot Group, which is spearheading a comprehensive refurbishment to revive the site’s heritage and enhance its offerings.

The restoration involves significant interior and exterior upgrades, including remodeling, extension, and landscaping. Notably, the project includes converting the former residential unit, gin distillery, and retail space at 1a Prior Park Road into an expanded pub and bar area, separate dining spaces, private dining rooms, a modern kitchen with back-of-house facilities, new toilets, staff changing rooms, an internal bin store, and a total of 10 guest rooms.

Bath and North East Somerset Council approved the plans, emphasizing that the expanded dining and accommodation facilities align well with the community’s needs and support the preservation of the site. While the development necessitates the loss of one dwelling, council officers recognized this as essential for the broad community and heritage benefits the project brings.

With these extensive works underway, The White Hart Inn is well on its way to reclaiming its status as a cherished hub for locals and visitors alike.
