Henry Arundell’s electrifying display against Saracens has seen him likened to South African great Bryan Habana. The England wing’s two decisive tries propelled Bath to a 36-29 victory, catapulting them to the top of the Gallagher Premiership table.
Arundell first turned the tide by intercepting an 80-metre pass, halting Saracens' early momentum after their 14-0 lead. Later, in the 76th minute with the game tied at 29-29, he finished off a brilliant break set up by Max Ojomoh, securing a vital win in a fiercely contested North London clash.
Bath coach Johann van Graan, having previously worked with Habana at the Bulls, did not hesitate to draw parallels between the two wings. “You can go and look at YouTube—we played the Brumbies in Canberra, and Bryan showcased that straight-line speed,” van Graan said. “Henry’s speed was unmistakable today; both are the quickest players I’ve coached.”

Van Graan praised Arundell for more than just his speed, highlighting his aerial ability, work ethic, and off-field professionalism. “Since joining us, Henry’s dedication to nutrition, gym work, and skill development has been outstanding,” the coach added. “He’s improved remarkably over the season and fits perfectly within our team culture.”
Max Ojomoh’s contribution was also pivotal—coming on in the final quarter, his quick acceleration and sharp handling created the match-winning try. “Max’s confidence is growing. That pass to Henry wasn’t easy, but he executed it perfectly,” van Graan commented.
Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall acknowledged his team’s strong start but admitted costly lapses allowed Bath to get back into the game. “We played well in the first half but conceded soft points at key moments—a mistake you can’t afford against a quality side like Bath,” he said. McCall also expressed concern after losing number eight Tom Willis early due to a hip injury.
The thrilling encounter showcased two teams trading blows, but it was Arundell’s pace and determination that ultimately made the difference, signaling the rise of a new talent with the potential to follow in the footsteps of legendary wings.
