A heatwave designation by the Met Office requires temperatures to exceed a specific local threshold for three consecutive days. These thresholds vary by region: in London and parts of the South East, temperatures must surpass 28°C; elsewhere in the South East, the threshold is 27°C. For the South West, most of Wales, Northern England, and Northern Ireland, the threshold stands at 25°C.
Since Sunday, heatwave conditions began in areas including Manchester, Trafford, Warrington in the North West, and Rushmoor in Hampshire. Today, forecasts indicate that over 230 more areas will enter heatwave conditions as temperatures surpass their local thresholds.
