Heartfelt Tribute to NHS Worker Killed in Somerset Crash

Ella Cook, a dedicated NHS worker, tragically lost her life in a car crash on the A46 in Claverton on April 15, 2023. In a poignant twist of fate, Ella received donated blood that she had helped collect earlier that same day.

Ella, 26, lived in Warminster and was engaged to Kai Poa-Tams. The devastating accident was caused by Alfie Cook, 22, and Lewis Glasby, 23, who were racing on the road. Both men pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and were recently sentenced to prison terms of nine years and nine years and four months, respectively. Additionally, they will face driving disqualifications and must pass extended driving tests before regaining their licenses.

Kai, speaking on behalf of Ella’s family, described her as a deeply loving partner, daughter, sister, and friend. “Ella gave herself completely to those she cared about,” he said. “Her warmth made everyone feel safe, valued, and understood. She brought people together with kindness and left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know her.”

Ella was also recognized for her creativity and artistic spirit, which brightened even the smallest moments. Kai recalled her “wicked sense of humour” that filled their days with laughter and joy.

A passionate member of NHS Blood and Transplant, Ella’s dedication to her work was evident as she progressed with determination. “In a heartbreaking yet extraordinary way, she received blood that she herself had helped process earlier that day,” Kai reflected. “That was Ella: always giving to others until the very end.”

Their relationship was built on deep love and shared dreams. “We planned a life together filled with love, family, and adventure,” Kai said. He fondly remembered an anniversary card where Ella wrote about their future filled with midnight kitchen dances, quirky TV shows, beach trips, and “a whole lot more love.”

The community mourns the loss of Ella, describing her as warm, loving, creative, and full of life. Investigating Officer Emma Ling emphasized the dangers of excessive speed, stating that the reckless racing behind the fatal crash showed a blatant disregard for safety. “Our thoughts are with Ella’s family, devastated by this tragic loss,” she added.

Ella Cook’s life and legacy continue to inspire, a reminder of the profound impact one person’s kindness and dedication can leave on the world.
